Linseed or flax seeds are one of the richest sources of mucilage.
Linseed as green manure plant
Around August many crops are harvested and leave empty fields in your garden. It's a good idea to fill these areas with green manure plants. Linseed is one of them. The seeds germinate fast, the plants grow speedily and the tender blue flowers attract bees.
Green manure plants add organic matter to the soil, cover the soil and give shade so that the micro-organisms in the soil keep thriving. Green manure plants also prevent weeds from invading your garden.
Of course, when you're not too late with sowing linseed or flax, you can still harvest the seeds which you can eat or use for sprouts.
