Truth is revealed in many religious texts. When in addition to studying such texts we practice God's Word by doing God's will and offering our lives to God in daily effort, we can experience how the truth becomes alive in us.

Second result of the Foundation of Faith: Receiving God's Word

What is truth? Truth in essence are the principles underlying all of creation, God's creation. Truth comes from God, is in God, was created by God.

External truth can be seen as the principles underlying the physical universe. These are principles such as these of mathematics, physical science[1] and life sciences[2].

There also exists internal truth. This is truth such as researched in religion and philosophy. This seminar about faith teaches about one aspect of internal truth.

All truth comes from God, was created by God, and the Foundation of Faith is to make a connection to God. The Foundation of Faith is also called the Foundation to receive God's Word. Why is that?

When we think of God as our loving parent, is it not natural that God would give us guidance and truth when we love God, when we live a life centered on God? This is what making the foundation of faith is about. It is to give our lives to God and live in accordance to God's will. Of course God will respond and guide us and give us truth.

All the central principles that were revealed to people over the course of history came from people who dedicated their lives to God or to higher purposes benefiting all of mankind.

Sometimes we think of truth as something that can be found only by research and by scientific methods, or by reading books that contain truth. Although all these methods can be valid, this does not yet make the truth we find to our own truth. Truth is something that already lives in us. We were created from true principles. When we wish to find truth about ourselves and the entire cosmos, we need to connect to our most inner being, and there we meet God.

The comprehension of truth, the experiencing of an Aha! effect is what we can receive by making a foundation of faith, by going to God and living with God in our daily lives.

Truth received in our heart

When we study truth as giving in religious texts, for example the Bible[3] or a more recent revelation the Divine Principle[4], we can read and study such books many times without ever catching the original meaning. Our study is on the level of intellect but the content doesn't become part of us.

But when in addition to studying such texts we practice God's Word by doing God's will and offering our lives to God in daily effort, we can experience how the truth becomes alive in us. We shall receive inspirations and revelations. The truth that we read in books is given newly again to us as individuals. This is how we gradually can become expressions of the truth, substantial bodies of truth.

What is God's will?

To know God's will begins with the trust that God wants to convey to us God's will. It is not up to us how God is conveying God's will to us. It is up to God. God can speak to us directly or God can speak through others, through religious models of faith, through people around us, through nature, through spiritual revelations.

We can know that something is God's will only when we have a living relationship to God. Even if we trust a religious leader to be an instrument of God, there always still is our task to interpret what such a person states. It is easy to be distracted and go on bypaths. The correct method is to always pray about any direction that comes to us in order to find what is the essence and what is important in this for our own lives.
