- Salix matsudana, a species of willow, cuttings placed in water, gives hormones off to the water. This water can be used as a starter for cuttings of other plants.

Cuttings of elder, holly, alder, willow, plum, oak, gooseberry, ribes, grape and many more. Almost all of these have successfully grown roots.
