Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi is a Sacred Fig tree in Sri Lanka. It is said to be a sapling from the historical Bodhi tree under which Buddha became enlightened. It was planted in 288 BC, and is the oldest living human-planted tree in the world with a known planting date.
The Bodhi Tree was a large and very old Sacred Fig tree located in the Indian state of Bihar, under which Siddhartha Gautama is said to have achieved enlightenment, or Bodhi. This tree is a frequent destination for pilgrims. The current tree at the site is a replacement.
