Learn about the energy of air

An ordinary air compressor shows us principles of how to work with the energy of air in our bodies

When we practice to work with energy in our bodies, we can learn to differentiate between different types of energy. Some other exercises in this series are about the energy that comes from the earth. Here we shall focus on the energy that air gives us, or the energy of air.

This energy of air is basically what in Hindu philosophy is called 'prana.' Prana is a sanskrit word for 'vital life' or breath. It is a vital, life-sustaining force of living beings.[1]

Let's get started. Preferably this is done outside in a nice location of nature. Walk and breathe. As you breathe in, concentrate on the energy that you feel in the air. As you breathe out, send this energy into all the cells of your body. Continue doing this until you become aware that there is an energy in the air, the more so when the air is clean and vibrant.

We can describe this process in physical terms, but there is also an energy aspect that is experienced on another level of awareness. It is this kind of awareness that we try to cultivate through this exercise.

Physically, when we breathe, we inhale oxygen from the air, ca 21 % of the air is oxygen. Our lungs and blood bring this oxygen to the cells where respiration takes place through which energy-rich molecules are metabolized and give us energy. This process of respiration is the reverse of that taking place in plants, where energy-rich molecules are formed as sugars.

However, this energy of air or prana is not only something physically. It is also a form of energy that we can directly use to vitalize our bodies.

As it is the case with everything, we can only handle what we know. When you take a stick in your hand, you can move it when you are aware of the stick being there. It is the same with energy. When you are aware of the energy of air, you can use this energy to vitalize your entire body. It will also work when you have no or lesser awareness, but the effect will be much smaller.

As we inhale energy from the air and while we are doing this, we try to become conscious of the energy aspect. And as we exhale, we send this energy into the body. Do this for longer time, inhaling energy from the air; exhaling and pumping the energy into all your cells.

The air is collected and transmitted in the body in the lungs. Here, in the center of our body to the right of the heart, is also located what is often called the 'heart chakra.' It is the heart chakra, not the physical heart, but the heart chakra, that can work with this energy of air. The heart chakra can take this energy of air out off the source, which is the air we breathe, and then store it in the chakra, and also send it to all the other energy systems in the body.

We come to the next stage of this exercise.

When you practice healing or fighting and your movements are to have effect on the body of an other person, you can use the energy of air. This energy is stored, as explained above, centrally in the heart chakra, but it is also present in the entire body.

It is by using the heart chakra that we can maximize the effect of the air energy in our healing movements or defensive actions in fighting. Let's compare this to what happens in an air compressor.

There is a source of energy, the air that the compressor sucks in. For us, the source also is the air around us, but we try to work with the energetic essence of the air.

The compressor has a reservoir to store the air. The reservoir for air energy in our body is the heart chakra, and also, but less concentrated, the entire body.

The compressor has a motor to compress the air. For us this motor is the heart chakra. It is also possible to use an additional motor, for example the gravity energy center in our belly.

The compressor has an exit tube, through which the force of the compressed air is passed on to a tool applied in combination with the compressor. This could be one of many pneumatic tools. For us, such a tool could be our healing hands.

We can use the air energy to give extra strength and vitality to all of our movements and our body's functional systems. We can also give this energy of air to another person to vitalize that person's energy system.

As you exercise with the energy of air, you gradually will become aware of your own possibilities. Most important is that you learn to recognize this energy as an energy, as something that is really there and that has certain characteristics that you can recognize.

All these energy exercises are not to be done only once or a few times. They need repeating many times, throughout your life, to continue enhancing your ability to recognize and use these energies.
