I have two of these Liatris spicata plants in my garden. They are also called 'prairie gay feather' and are perennial plants native to most of eastern North America. The plants give attractive purple flowers that are frequently visited by butterflies, bees and bumblebees. They are also said to attract hummingbirds. The flowers appear in July and August.
These plants prefer full sun and a moist and slightly acidic soil.
