People commonly think of a total of five traditional senses, sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch. Sometimes a sixth sense is added, meaning a sense in terms of intuition or foresight. The five senses are understood as physical senses, but we also have five spiritual senses, or senses with which we perceive the spiritual reality. The sixth sense is understood by some as a combination of various spiritual senses.

Actually, we have many more senses, both spiritually and physically. For example, we can also physically sense such matters as pain, body position, balance, acceleration, our blood pressure and differences in temperature.

Some people got injuries that left scars in their body, and these scars can function as very special senses. The scars can cause pain in situations that are similar to that in which the injury was inflicted.

All parts of the body are senses

In fact, all parts of the body can function as senses. Especially the centers of energy, the chakras or switchwheels are senses.

When a particular energy occupies a region of the body, this region functions as a sense to detect changes in that particular energy.

For example, the root chakra can detect sexual energy. The throat chakra can detect energies of the mind. Your third eye or forehead chakra can see changes in energy with the spiritual sight and your spiritual ears can hear changes in energy in sounds with the spiritual hearing.

This information also tells us how we can improve our ability to sense the spiritual and the energy reality. It is by filling chakras with pure energies of the kinds that belong to these chakras.

When you think pure and true thoughts, the ether in your throat chakra will become filled with pure ether, and with your throat you can sense impure or wrong or hateful thoughts of others.

When we love in an unselfish way, centered on higher purpose, we can become painfully sensitive to impure love.

The mechanics

What are the mechanics of how such senses work?

When a chakra is filled with energy of a particular kind, for example the energy of ether in our throat chakra, it becomes sensitive to changes that are affected by the same type of energy. When someone near you thinks in a negative way, you may feel your throat being blocked or getting filled with dirty energy. Energies of an entirely different nature will not affect this part of your body. For example, you commonly won't feel love or sexual feelings with your throat. You sense these in other parts of your body.

Because your throat chakra is the energy center that controls the energy of ether, or the energy on which your mind operates, it can become sensitive to changes in this particular type of energy.

When you get an injury of some kind that leaves a scar in your body, energy that entered your body during the incident will remain in the scar. It becomes fixed there because of the permanent scar or defect. It is this energy that reacts to similar events that may occur later, and the pain in your scar functions as a warning signal.

Senses, understood on an energy level, operate on different types of energy, and these different types of energy determine the type of sensitivity.

Angels' wings for example, besides being their instruments to fly in the spirit world, also function as sensors or antennas to pick up changes in the energy atmosphere around them. Our hairs are an extension of the head and hairs can form a sphere of energy that functions as a sensor to also detect changes in the spiritual atmosphere.

All the senses together tell us about our environment. Often we don't know how we acquired information because the input comes in so many ways and can be sensed by various senses at the same time. All these inputs together are part of the more general sense that can be called 'intuition.'
